Sehwag suffers groin injury ahead of Test team selection

Dashing opener Virender Sehwag has suffered a groin injury during the training session ahead of Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka in Karachi and was advised 10 days' rest by the Indian team's physio but this may not rule him out of the tour of the island nation.

In his report, quoted by website cricketnirvana.com, physio Nitin Patel has said "Please be informed that Mr. Sehwag has sustained a minor (Grade 1) strain of one of the muscles of the right groin during the warm-up sessions for yesterday's game against Sri-Lanka i.e. Asia Cup final. He is expected to get back to his normal cricketing activities in about ten days."

"He has been given a rehabilitation programme for this period," the report said.

The report has been sent to the Cricket Board and Test captain Anil Kumble, the website reported.

The selectors, who are to meet here tomorrow to choose the Test team for Sri Lanka and the 30 probables for the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan in September, can still include him in the squad as the opening match of the series commences only on July 23.

However, in that case India's only Test triple centurion (twice in his career) will be unable to play the opening three-day warm-up game starting on July 18 as per the physio's advise.

The squad is set to leave for Sri Lanka on July 15 to play the three Tests at Colombo (first and third) and Galle (second).
